| This is, by far, the BEST workshop to attend.... it's a 12 week class, it's Faith Based, and it is a reassurance every week that God is in control, that God loves you, and that He has a plan for you that is greater than you can imagine. You also learn the tools needed to create an effective job search in today's technological world. Even if you are still employed, the evening classes make it easy for all to attend. There is a $40 materials fee.... however, it is well worth it, filled with the class notes and hand outs that you can refer to, after you've completed the class. | Now, while you're attending the Thursday night class, you need to start networking. 20% of today's jobs are found on the internet. The other 80% are found by networking... who you know! Networking comes easy to some people, but not to MOST people! Southlake Focus Group is one of the largest in Tarrant County... and their numbers have grown as the unemployment numbers have grown! This is an 8 year old group, well connected to the alumni (folks who's found jobs) and is a source for great contacts and job leads that are not on the traditional job boards. The group really helps you hone your 10 second elevator speech (yes, you'll learn what that is too!) and to learn to focus on your career objectives. Southlake Focus Group Thursday mornings 8:00 to 10:30 am Whites Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake This networking group has grown to over 300 attendees any given week, Weekly support and resource group for those searching for a job or in transition to a new job. Tarrant County Business Breakfast (TCBB) the first Tuesday of every month. Fort Worth Business Assistance Center http://fwbac.com/registration.asp $8.00 While it's a Business Breakfast, there are often times people there looking for their next Greatest position. There are always plenty of people willing to help also. |
| More Networking There are more networking groups... Special Interest Groups for those in specific industries, such as HR, IT, Project Management, Marketing & Advertising, Retail, Sales, and others forming every week. These are usually about 20-30, and are helpful in sharing leads and contacts within your own career area. There's also a whole group of the same happening over in Dallas County. Fortunately, Jeff Morris (also unemployed) formed a great website that lists groups, events, job fairs, seminars...all in one convenient place. This comprehensive resource can be found at www.careerdfw.org Also, check out www.careerconnections.org for workshop and job posting information in the Dallas area. This is a huge (over 1000 at each meeting!) networking group. There is a monthly fee, but I've heard nothing but good things... and that it is WELL WORTH the $10 a month! |
